
Brown Water Polo Earns 15-4 Win Against Gannon

Princeton, NJ- The Brown women's water polo team cruised
to a 15-4 victory over Gannon University on Saturday during the
Princeton Invitational. Leading the offense was freshman Avery Mosser (Mill Valley, CA) with four goals, while senior Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI) picked up 15 saves in the cage to lead the
defense.
“It was a good overall day defensively,” said Head
Coach Felix Mercado. “If we can continue to play like this we
will be heading in the right direction. But it is very early in the
season and we have a pretty tough schedule ahead of us.”
The Bears jumped out to a 6-0 first quarter lead and scored two
more goals in the second to take an 8-0 lead at the half. Bruno
didn't back down in the third and outscored Gannon 4-1 and
went on to tally three more in the fourth to earn the win.
Mosser earned her first collegiate goal this afternoon and went on
to score three more to pace the offense with four, and junior Rita Bullwinkel (Portola Valley, CA) chipped in with three goals, four
assists and one steal. Also scoring was freshmen Brittany Westerman
(Palo Alto, CA) and Katharine Booher (Palo Alto, CA) with two
apiece, while senior Lauren Presant (Poway, CA) and sophomore
Samantha Ryu (Santa Barbara, CA) added one each. Laing tallied 15
saves in the cage, to help the Brown Bears earn its fourth win of
the 2010 season.
The Bears will now challenge Iona tomorrow morning at 10:20 a.m.,
and will then take on host Princeton at 4:10 p.m.
