Brown Women's Basketball Falls to Harvard 66-51

Cambridge, MA –Led by Victoria Lippert's game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds, the Harvard women's basketball team defeated the Bears 66-51 at Lavietes Pavilion on Saturday evening. The Crimson improved to 14-7 overall with a 5-2 mark in the Ivy League, and the Bears dropped to 6-16 with a 3-5 record in the league. Brown's offense was led by sophomore guard Hannah Passafuime's 14 points, while sophomore Lindsay Steele brought down a team-high seven rebounds.

Harvard, led by Lippert's nine points, came out hot and jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play. But the Bears buckled down and held Harvard scoreless for the next three minutes while the squad cut their deficit to just three with 8:59 remaining in the first half after a three by junior Sadiea Williams.

Harvard then turned the tables around and held the Bears scoreless for the next few minutes, but senior point guard Courtney Lee broke the silence with a jumper in the paint at the 5:14 mark followed by two free throws by Passafuime to decrease Bruno's deficit to 24-19 with 3:31 on the clock

Freshman Lindsay Nickel then drove to the hoop for a layup, followed by a bucket by Passafuime to put the Bears within one with 1:13 left before the half. But Harvard's Brogan Berry nailed a trey from the corner and Lippert drained two free throws to extend its lead to 39-23 heading into the locker room at the half.

Harvard came out of halftime and built a 37-27 lead in the first four minutes of the second half, and Emma Markley went on to score eight consecutive points to gain a 47-32 advantage after nine minutes of play.

The Bears went on an 11-2 run with the help of six points by both Steele and senior guard Christina Johnson to cut Harvard's lead to seven, but the Crimson were too tough and built a 60-46 with 3:31 remaining in the game. Baskets by both Lee and Passafuime brought the Bears within 10 with 1:58 left, but the Crimson came out on top and earned a 66-51 win.

Harvard had three players in double-figures, with Lippert leading the way with 27. Emma Markley added 17 and Christine Matera chipped in with 12. Passafuime put up a team-high 14 points and dished out three assists, followed by Courtney Lee with nine points and three assists.
