
Matt Mullery's Overtime Basket With :05 Remaining Lifts Brown Over Wagner, 72-71

Providence, Rhode Island - Senior center Matt Mullery's
lay-up with five seconds remaining rallied Brown to a 72-71
overtime victory over Wagner at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The
win lifts the Bears to 6-9 on the season, while Wagner falls to
2-13.
Trailing 71-70 with 20 seconds remaining in overtime following a

Brown called timeout. The Bears put pressure on the Seahawks and
Brown junior Adrian Williams picked up a loose ball on the Wagner
inbounds pass giving the Bears possession with nine seconds
remaining.
Following a timeout, Mullery took the inbounds pass at the top of
the key and blew past his defender to hit the game winning lay-up
with five seconds remaining in overtime. Wagner's Chris
Martin got off a desperation trey and the ball fell off the rim at
the buzzer.
Halpern was the big story for the Bears, scoring 22 points on 9 of
20 shooting from the field, and pulling down seven rebounds, both
career highs.
Neither team led by more than three points in the second half with
the score tied 14 times and 14 lead changes.
The Bears grabbed a 62-60 lead with 34 seconds left in regulation
on a 10-foot jump shot by Halpern. Wagner's Michael Orock
scored on a dunk with 19 seconds remaining to send the game into
overtime.
Brown led by as many as six points in the first half, 31-25,
following three point baskets by freshmen Tucker Halpern and Matt Sullivan with 3:34 remaining. The Seahawks closed the half with a
10-2 run to pull ahead, 35-34 at the half.
Freshman Andrew McCarthy scored 15 points and six rebounds in 14
minutes of play, connecting on 7 of 9 shots from the field. Mullery
ended the game with 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior Peter Sullivan added nine points and a team high eight rebounds.
Orock led Wagner with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Tyler
Murray added 15 points.
Brown travels to West Point, New York to battle Army on Wednesday,
January 6. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
