No. 23 Brown Men's Soccer Battles No. 16 BU to 3-3 Double OT Draw

The No. 23 Brown University men's soccer team battled No.
16 Boston University to a thrilling 3-3 double overtime draw on
Wednesday evening at Stevenson Field. The Bears earned their fourth
tie of the year and moved to 4-0-4 this season, as the Terriers
moved to 6-2-2.
The first goal of the night was an own goal scored just 1:59 into
the first period when a ball went off a Brown player's head
and past goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN). It was credited
to Boston University's Samuel Appiah to give the Terriers a
1-0 edge over the Bears.
A header by Colin Henry extended Boston University's lead to
2-0 at the 19:08 mark after heading in ball from Tom Strackhouse.
But the Bears showed their resilience and fought right back by
scoring the next two goals of the game to even the score at
2-2.
Just two minutes after BU's second goal, sophomore
midfielder Taylor Gorman (Freeport, ME) collected a rebound from
Sean Rosa's (Montreal, Quebec) shot attempt and headed one
past Hrafn Davidsson in net to cut Bruno's deficit to 2-1.
Eight minutes later defender David Walls (Leeds, England) tied the
game 2-2 with a shot from 20 yards out that went through the legs
of Davidsson. Both Rosa and junior Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ) were
credited with assists.
Boston University's Stephen Knox blasted a shot from 10
yards out to the low left corner of the goal at the 54:38 mark
after a pass from Appiah to put the Terriers back on top, 3-2, but
once again Brown battled right back to tie the game. This time it
was Rosa who knocked one in, as he sent the ball to the high right
corner from 25 yards out on a pass from senior midfielder Nick Elenz-Martin (Encinitas, CA).
Boston University earned a 17-16 advantage over the Bears in
shots, but Bruno dominated in corner kicks, 11-6. Both Davidsson
and Grandstrand picked up three saves in net during their 110
minutes of play.
The Bears will now face Ivy League opponent Columbia at 7:00 p.m.
on Saturday, Oct. 3 in New York, and will then host Princeton the
following week, Saturday, Oct. 10.
