TOWSON, MD - Junior Kate Scott (Medway, MA) and senior Melissa Kim (Bethesda, MD) each scored their first goals of the season as
the Brown women's soccer team (1-4-0) earned a 2-0 victory over
Towson (4-4-1) on Sunday afternoon. After being held to just two
goals in their first four games, three of which came against teams
ranked in the national top-20, the Bears scored twice in the second
half to earn their first win of the season.
After a scoreless first half, in which Towson held a 10-6 advantage
in shots, the Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute when
Scott scored on a header after a corner kick by junior Sylvia Stone
(Bronx, NY) for what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
With just under 15 minutes remaining, Brown upped its advantage to
2-0 when Kim struck on a quick restart on an indirect inside the
18. Freshman Diana Ohrt (Simi Valley, CA) touched the ball and Kim
launched the ball past Kristen Sample for the 2-0 lead.
Senior Steffi Yellin (Savannah, GA) earned her eighth career
shutout with four saves in net for the Bears, stopping two in each
half, while Sample made four saves for the Tigers.
The Bears return to action on Thursday evening when they host Army
in a 7:00 p.m. non-league contest.
