COLLEGE PARK, MD - Facing its third ranked opponent in its first four games, the Brown women's soccer (0-4-0) team dropped a 3-1 decision to #9 Maryland (8-0-0), which remained perfect on the season.
The Terps grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when Molly Dreska fired a shot from 40 yards out that beat senior Brenna Hogue (Concord, CA) to the upper left. Maryland extended its lead to 2-0 early in the second half when Dreska tallied her second of the game with an assist from Jasmyne Spencer.
Brown made it a one-goal game in the 52nd minute when the Bears capitalized on a free kick. Junior Sylvia Stone (Bronx, NY) sent the ball into the box where it was flicked by freshman Diana Ohrt (Simi Valley, CA) and finished by junior Gina Walker (Canyon Country, CA), who tallied her first career goal.
However, before Brown could get any closer, Spencer provided
some insurance for the Terps, securing the victory in the 85th
minute.
Maryland outshot the Bears, 24-4, forcing Hogue to make seven
saves. Brown continues action on Sunday afternoon when it faces
Towson in a 12:00 noon game.
