Ferd Treusacher came to Brown from Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY where he was a two-time All-American. Cliff Stevenson expected his offense would get some help when Ferd arrived and he was right. Most of Brown’s opponents double teamed him, but he still booted home 11 goals, and had a team high 9 assists. The 1972 team had a season that was 11-5-0, captured the New England Championship and received an NCAA bid. A game that Brown fans will remember is the Harvard game. That game made the season, since it knocked Harvard out of the Ivy League title race. Brown led 2-0 before the Crimson surged back to tie the score midway through the second half. Early in the first overtime period, Brown was awarded a corner kick, which did not exactly evoke cries of joy from the sidelines since the team hadn’t come too close to scoring on such a play that season. Well Harvard cried after Treusacher lofted the ball toward the far left post and Bill Frost headed the ball in for the winner. As a fitting climax his senior year, Fred Treusacher showed why he earned All-American honors. He had game winning goals against Cornell and Princeton. Starting the season in the backfield position mid season and ended up Brown’s leading scorer. He finished his career by being drafted and signed by the Boston Astros. The 1973 team won the Ivy League, the Eastern NCAA and were semi-finalists in the NCAA. Ferd Treusacher was chosen first team All-Ivy, All New England and All American. While his mother still resides in Rochester, Ferd is currently living in Germany.
