A three-time All-American, Dave Evans ’96 helped Brown lacrosse capture back-to-back Ivy League championships, and left College Hill as one of the greatest scorers in the history of the storied program.
Evans earned consecutive All-American honors from 1994 to 1996, including First Team recognition the first two years, the first sophomore in program history to receive the award. He was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 1995 and finished his career third all-time at Brown in both goals (145) and points (232).
After earning Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors in 1993, Evans helped Brown capture the Ivy title the following season with a perfect 6-0 record, en route to a Final Four appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including a five-goal performance in the opening-round victory over Navy. The two-time First Team All-Ivy selection led the Bears back to the NCAA Tournament as a junior after racking up a career high 50 goals and 73 points. Evans earned Second Team All-Ivy honors as a freshman and senior, collecting league honors all four seasons.
In addition, Evans served as team captain as a senior and then earned the Cliff Stevenson Award, presented to the male varsity athlete who exemplifies enthusiasm, indomitable spirit and devotion to the quality of life at Brown and the surrounding community.
Evans went on to have a successful professional career, playing for the Baltimore Thunder and the Boston Cannons in Major League Lacrosse, where he was a six-time MLL All-Star selection before retiring in 2006 after eight seasons. The attackman won the league’s fastest shot contest three years in a row and once held the record for the fastest shot in the world, clocking in at 109 miles-per-hour. He finished his professional career as the Boston Cannon’s all-time record holder with 133 goals.
Evans earned his master’s degree in teaching from Lesley University. In 2009, Evans returned to Brown as an assistant coach. He has served as the founder and director of recruiting for Laxachusetts Club Lacrosse since 2011.
