At the 2021 IRA, Rufus helped guide the Third Varsity to the Grand Final while placing the impetus for success on individual student-athletes.
"I've been impressed by the work that Rufus has done over the past two years in recruiting and he is well suited and ready to take on the position of recruiting coordinator," said head coach Paul Cooke '89. "He understands the mission of the university and is fully invested in the process of bringing Championships back to Brown. Rufus will play a very important role in building this team for the future."
"As an athlete and coach, Rufus has shown exceptional qualities of character and achievement and I am confident that he will continue to find success as 1st Assistant with Brown Men's Crew," Cooke added. "Rufus understands the importance of integrity as a teammate and execution as an athlete and communicates well with the oarsmen and coxswains."
A recipient of Brown’s Dave Zucconi ’55 Award given for embodying the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play, Biggs is one of only a handful of rowers to captain the Bears for two years in the lengthy history of the program.
Biggs rowed in the first varsity eight for three seasons (2017, 2018, 2019) and earned a pair of bronze medals at Eastern Sprints as a junior and senior. He reached the grand final as a top-six finisher at the IRA National Championship in the first varsity eight in both 2017 and 2018.
An Academic All-Ivy and IRA All-Academic selection, Biggs won a bronze medal with the championship eight at the 2018 Head of the Charles Regatta.
Biggs competed at the U-23 World Rowing Championships during the summer of 2019 in Sarasota, Fla., in the pair for Great Britain. His crew made the grand final behind a strong semifinal race and finished sixth in the competition.
A native of Marlow, United Kingdom, Biggs attended Sir William Borlase School in the UK and was a two-time Henley Champion in the schools’ quadruple sculls event, the Fawley Cup. He also competed for Molesey Boat Club and was a Henley Champion in the Thames Cup.
Biggs graduated from Brown in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in History.
