PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown sailing team competed in three events over the long weekend, highlighted by the women's team winning the Stu Nelson Trophy hosted by Connecticut College.

The women's team finished first in the Stu Nelson Trophy, beating the defending National Champion Stanford by eight points. Brown won both the A and B divisions in the three-division, 16-team interconference event. Laura Hamilton and Katherine Majette won the A-division, and Sidney Moyer and Michelle Kaneti won the B-division. Leila Pfrang and Elena Sun finished sixth in the C-division.

The open team finished sixth out of 18 teams in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1B at the U.S. Naval Academy. The top nine teams in the event qualified for the Open Atlantic Coast Championship on Oct. 24-25 at Brown. The Bears led after Saturday, but a few tough races on Sunday dropped them to sixth.

The open team also had two teams compete in the Sister Esther Trophy hosted by Salve Regina, finishing second and sixth respectively. The Brown Bears 1 team finished second in the A-division with skippers Noah Stapleton (Sat) and Charlie Gish (Sun), with crews Marin Soderberg (Sat) and Kyoko Tonkin (Sun). Brown Bears 1 also finished second in the B-division with skippers Julian Dahiya (Sat) and Nathan Pine (Sun) and crews Phoebe Hackett (Sat) and Julia Getter (Sun).
