PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Coming off of the most complete performance of the season on Apr. 25 against the Cornell Big Red, Brown women's crew turns their attention to the 50th Eastern Sprints on May 4.
The Bears have won the Eastern Sprints each of the last three seasons, with 13 team points trophy's since 1990 and 11 Varsity 8 titles since 1988. Simply put, Brown has established itself as arguably the premier program to compete in the event over the last 37 years.Â
The V8 has a strong resume this deep into the season, with two first place finishes against Penn and Cornell in addition to several podium finishes at the Big Ten Invitational in Sarasota. The 2V8, which also has two first place finishes against Penn and Cornell, hasn't finished lower then second overall in any race that they've competed in this season.
The top two boats for this Brown program have been anchored by most of the 2025 senior class, with Nadia Vondeling, Riley Cooper, Caroline Schmitz, Jessica McGrady, Annie Herring, and Audrey Roche establishing themselves as mainstays in the starting lineups this season.Â
SENIOR INSIGHT
"The past two weeks the team has been hard at work. After Big Tens, we took the time to gather and reflect on what we could improve as a team. It's fun to acknowledge our strengths, but having the opportunity to be intentional, hone in our skills, and bite down is what builds speed throughout the season. Something special about sprints is that there are always spectators- rain or shine - which creates an infectious buzz at the finish line. I'm super excited to see all our hard work pay off and showcase our newfound speed against teams both new and old at sprints." - Audrey Roche
"As a team we are excited to have the opportunity to showcase our team's speed and depth at Eastern sprints. We have trained hard to be able to race multiple times a day, and this weekend we have a great opportunity to put that preparation to work. It will be fun to line up against teams we have already faced this season, and show how much we have grown as a squad. It will also be fun to race other Ivy League teams that we have not seen before our Championship race later in the season. I also have many fond memories at Lake Quinsigamond, and I hope this weekend we will make many more." - Jessica McGrady
