PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown Head Football Coach James Perry '00 has announced the hiring of Bryan Murray as the Bears' new Assistant Coach, Outside Linebackers.
Murray comes to Brown after most recently serving as a defensive line coach at Shepherd University, and has previously held positions at Slippery Rock, Maine and Cincinnati.
In two seasons as the Defensive Line Coach at Shepherd, Murray coached four different players to First Team All-PSAC honors and made one appearance in the NCAA DII Playoffs. He also served as an academic liaison, initiating the program's Relay for Life team to raise over $4,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Murray spent the 2022 season as the Defensive Line Coach at the University of Maine, helping the team nearly double its sack total from the previous season.
Murray served as the Defensive Line Coach at Slippery Rock University from 2019-2021, serving as a critical piece to developing four All-PSAC, three all-region and two All-American defensive linemen. In 2019, The Rock ranked sixth in the final AFCA DII Poll after finishing with a 13-1 record and advancing to the national semifinals.
Prior to arriving in Slippery Rock, Murray served as a Defensive Line Graduate Assistant at the University of Cincinnati under head coach Luke Fickell, and defensive coordinator (and current Notre Dame head coach) Marcus Freeman.
Murray got his coaching career started as an assistant for three years at Newton North High School in Massachusetts, where he also worked as a Special Education Behavioral Therapist.
As a player, Murray was a three-time letterwinner at Boston College, where he played defensive line and was teammates with current Brown Defensive Coordinator Dan Mulrooney.
Murray graduated from Boston College in 2011 with dual Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Human Development and Economics with a minor in sociology. He later added a master's degree in applied development and educational psychology from Boston College in 2013.
