Volleyball Cruises to Sweep over Dartmouth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball (10-6, 5-2 Ivy) made quick work of its match with Dartmouth (5-12, 2-5 Ivy), taking down the Big Green in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 18), 25-16, 25-13, 25-11.
Brown finished the match hitting .302 and holding Dartmouth to just .036 hitting. Sophia Wolfson was the lone Bear to finish with double-figure kills, collecting 13 kills while hitting .379. Mariia Sidorova was second on the team with eight kills on .333 hitting. Julia Kakkis guided the offense with 34 assists.
On defense, Brown finished with 61 digs, tied for the second-most by the Bears in any match this season. Jessie Golden led the way with 23, followed by Yuna Yang, who had a career-high 14 digs and Sidorova, who finished with 11. Wolfson was dominant at the net with six blocks and Kakkis finished with four.
The Bears also had eight aces to just one for Dartmouth. Wolfson and Sidorova led Brown with three aces each.
Dartmouth started the match with a 2-0 lead and after the Bears scored three-straight points, Brown would not trail for the rest of the match. Kills by Panzloff and Sarah Shaw put Brown up 11-5. Brown extended its lead to nine before Dartmouth pulled back within six at 22-16 but Brown scored the final three points of the set to close out the first.
In the second, Brown used an early 6-0 run that featured three blocks to jump ahead 8-1. A kill by Panzloff and ace by Wolfson made the score 20-11. Up 21-13, Brown started a run with a block by Shaw and Elizabeth Sessa and ended it with an ace by Eve McLaury to go up 2-0 in the match.
It was another fast start for the Bears in the third as back-to-back aces by Sidorova put Brown up 9-2. After a Big Green point, Brown used a 6-0 run to jump ahead 15-3. Fisayo Afonja and Wolfson scored back-to-back kills to give Brown match point. Three points later, Afonja ended the match with another kill.
GAME NOTES
Brown swept back-to-back matches for the first time since Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 in 2023. Brown swept both Penn and Columbia those wins.
The Bears have now won double-figure games for the seventh-straight season. The last time Brown had seven-straight winning seasons was from 1996-2002.
Golden's 23 digs are tied for her second-highest amount this season. It is the most digs by Golden in a three-set match this year and the most by the senior in a three-set match since she had 24 in a win at Penn on Oct. 27, 2023.
Wolfson now has 12 matches with double-figure kills this season. It is the most double-figure kill matches by a Brown middle blocker in a season since at least the 2012 season.
