Men’s Crew Picks Up Several IRCA Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Several Bears were recognized with year-end awards from the IRCA, headlined by brothers Asher and Nathan Swidler receiving the prestigious Jack R. Robinson Inspiration Award.
In addition to the Swidlers, Ian Burnett and Gabriel Mahler picked up Empacher IRCA First Team All-America Honors with Jack DiGiovanni and Willem Stoop earning Second Team All-America honors.
Asher and Nathan picked up the Inspiration Award, given to an athlete or coach who has demonstrated the drive and motivation to overcome adversity or make a major impact on their team or community. This award is named in honor of Cornell Heavyweight Commodore and coxswain, Jack Robinson.
The duo are active members of the Chabad, the center of Jewish presence on campus, with Asher serving as President.
Burnett earns First Team All-America honors for the second straight season after rowing the entire spring in the seven-seat of the Varsity 8. He also picked up First Team All-Ivy honors after Brown captured the Eastern Sprints title.
Mahler also earns First Team honors for the second straight season and third time in his career. The Prague native earned All-America honors all four years at Brown. The senior rowed with the Varsity 8 all spring and earned First Team All-Ivy honors.
DiGiovanni, the USRowing Under-23 Athlete of the Year, coxed the Varsity 8 this spring and earned Second Team All-America honors for the second time and first since 2022. The Pittford, New York native was also named one of seven finalists for IRCA Coxswain of the Year.
Stoop rounds out the honorees with his first career All-America nod. The Netherlands native stroked the Varsity 8 at the Eastern Sprints and IRA Championships and earned First Team All-Ivy recognition.
Additionally, 17 Bears earned IRCA Scholar-Athlete accolades, listed below. It marks an increase from the 15 Bears who picked up the honor in 2023.
