Field Hockey's South Africa Recap

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears wrapped up its Foreign Trip to South Africa, returning to College Hill after spending more than a week in Cape Town and the surrounding areas. Read more for a complete recap of the trip!
Day 1 – Beach
After a long day of travel, the Bears arrived in South Africa and jumped right into the activities with a trip to Table Bay. The team enjoyed beach views before learning how to play the drums and trying 14 traditional African dishes from several countries.

Day 2 – Table Mountain & Game
On day two, Brown summited Table Mountain with a cable car tour and took in breathtaking views of the South African coast. After enjoying a lunch by the beach, the team prepared for its first match against Constantiaberg Hockey Club.
Brown's offense exploded in the opening match for five goals and the Bears held off Constantiaberg for a 5-3 victory.

Day 3 – Surfing & Game
Brown hit the water on day three for surfing in Muizenberg followed by a fish and chips lunch overlooking the ocean. From there, Brown took on Durbanville Hockey Club in its second match of the trip.
Bruno carried the on-field momentum into the second match against Durbanville, closing the night with a 6-0 victory.

Day 4 – Exploration
Brown explored the area on day four, which began with the scenic Chapman's Peak Drive. The Bears then visited the penguins on Boulder Beach and closed out the day at The Waterfront for lunch and to explore the markets.

Day 5 – Zipline & Game
Heading out of Cape Town for Stellenbosch, the Bears kicked off day five with a zipline tour over beautiful mountains and trees. In the final match of the trip, Brown took on the Stellenbosch Maties, ultimately falling in a fast-paced match.

Day 6 – Inspire Children and Youth
Brown spent day six with Inspire Children and Youth and helped the program in its mission to provide training for women in the community and after-school programming for the young children in a rural farming area.
The Bears began the day harvesting olives to help fund the program and spent time with the women and children, learning new games, eating a meal together, and helping facilitate math and life lessons.

Day 7 & 8 – Aquila Game Reserve
