Volleyball Swept at Penn to Close Weekend Trip

PHILADELPHIA – Brown volleyball (3-9, 0-3 Ivy) was swept by Penn (8-5, 2-2 Ivy) on Saturday, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16, to close out its road weekend of Ivy League play.
Beau Vanderlaan finished the match with a team-high 10 kills with Mariia Sidorova finishing with six kills and eight digs. Sophia Wolfson had five kills and Elizabeth Sessa had five kills in her first-career game. Julia Kakkis tallied 28 assists.
Jessie Golden collected 14 digs and Victoria Vo had 10. Vanderlaan, Wolfson and Kakkis all had three blocks.
Brown's offense was held to hitting just .145 on the night and the Bears committed 10 service errors in the match. Penn took advantage at the service line with 11 aces.
The Bears had a 22-17 lead in the first after two kills by Vanderlaan and an ace from Griebl but Penn closed out the set on an 8-1 run to take the first.
Brown fell behind early in set two, going down 8-3 before coming back to make it 9-6 after a kill by Vanderlaan. Penn took control of the set with an 8-1 run to go up 18-7. Brown fought off two set points but could not erase the deficit.
Another early hole put Brown down 7-1 but the Bears pulled back into the set with a kill and two aces by Wolfson to make the score 15-12. It was the closest Brown got as a 6-1 run by the Quakers put the game away.
UP NEXT
Brown will host High Point on Tuesday night for the final non-conference game of the season. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
