Track and Field Wraps up Weekend of Three Meets

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brown track and field programs wrapped up a weekend of competition Saturday at three different meets between Boston and New York. All told, the programs combined to earn three marks that sit at No. 2 all-time in program history in their respective events with Marcus Gillespie running the second-best time in the history of the men's 60 meter hurdles, while Rudecia Bernard (women's high jump), and Jada Joseph (women's long jump) also turned in No. 2 all-time marks.
The Bears had athletes at three meets including the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge at The Armory in NYC, as well as the John Thomas Terrier Classic and River Hawk Invitational in Boston.
MEN
Dr. Sander Invitational
In the 60 meter dash, Solomon Miller set a new PR at 6.90 to finish eighth, putting him in a three-way tie for ninth on the program's all-time top 10 list. In the 200 meters, Zach Love set an indoor PR with his third place finish of 22.03 to sit 10th all-time on program history.
Sophomore Jason Estrada took third place overall in the 400 meter dash invitational in 49.23, while Jack Kelley took runner-up in the 400 meter college race in 49.04.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Marcus Gillespie moved himself up from No. 5 to No. 2 on the program's all-time list with his prelim time of 7.98, just the second mark all-time under eight seconds. He followed that up with a fifth place finish in the finals at 8.00 seconds. He moves within 0.07 seconds of Bretram Rogers' school record from 2020.
Love took home the gold in the long jump, leading the way at 7.45 meters. Joseph Oduro moved up one spot on the all-time triple jump list to No. 4 with his second place finish of 15.43m.
John Thomas Terrier Classic
At Boston University, the Bears had two throwers land in the top five of the weigh throw, with Keith Daigneau (17.05m) taking fourth overall and Ethan Wordell (16.77m) finishing fifth.
WOMEN
Dr. Sander Invitational
Rudecia Bernard reached the No. 2 all-time mark in program history in the high jump, clearing 1.80m to move one within one centimeter of the program record.
Jada Joseph set a new PR in the long jump by one centimeter, winning the event at 6.11m to tighten her grip on the No. 2 mark in program history. Lauren Yeboah-Kodie also landed on the podium in third place with her leap of 5.99m. The same duo also led the team in the triple jump with Yeboah-Kodie (12.82m) taking third place and Joseph (12.58m) finishing fourth.
Kendra Ezeama led the Bears in the shot put with her sixth place finish at 14.25 meters. Chidinma Agbasi represented the Bears in the weight throw, finishing eighth at 17.98m.
In the 5,000 meters, Katie Orchard led the women's squad with a new PR of 17:14.01 to finish 10th overall in the event. In the 60 meter hurdles white race, Simone Dunbar set one of two new PRs on the day, crossing the line in 9.00 seconds to place fourth. Brooke Ury topped out at 8.55 in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles blue race.
John Thomas Terrier Classic
Nimrit Ahuja led Brown and collected the No. 10 mark all-time in program history in the 5,000 meters with her time of 16:47.52.
Tanisha Patil led the Bears in the 500 meters with an eighth place finish of 1:17.54. Stephanie Kriss put up a new PR of 2:54.86 to lead Brown in the 1,000 meters.
In the weight throw, Jillian Leahy led the Bears in third place at 17.07 meters.
The Bears will compete next on Friday, February 2 at the Crimson Elite and Multi at Harvard.
