PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Eight Brown football players have been selected to the 2023 Phil Steele Preseason All-Ivy League Team, the organization has announced. The eight Bears combined for a total of 11 preseason all-league honors, led by senior wide receiver Wes Rockett who earned three First Team All-League nods.
Six of the eight individuals earning preseason honors were previously named to the 2022 Phil Steele All-Ivy Team last December.
FIRST TEAM
Wes Rockett (WR, PR, All-Purpose)
SECOND TEAM
Cooper DeVeau (DB)
Isaiah Reed (DB)
Michael Davidson (LS)
THIRD TEAM
Graham Walker (WR)
Terrence Lane II (DL)
Kyle Philbin (DL)

Rockett was the lone Brunonian to earn multiple preseason accolades, earning First Team honors at wide receiver, returner and all-purpose. Being named Second Team All-Ivy by the league's coaches as a receiver back in November, Rockett led the Bears with 48 catches for 554 yards and tied for the team lead with three touchdowns in 2022. He returned nine kicks, ranked third in the Ivy with 21.1 yards per return, and ranked sixth in the league with 83.6 all-purpose yards per game.
On the second team, Reed and DeVeau provided one of the league's top defensive secondary duos last season. Reed had a breakout sophomore campaign that saw him lead the team with 53.0 tackles and rank seventh in the Ivy with eight pass breakups. DeVeau ranked second in the league in passes defended and pass breakups. Both players were named Honorable Mention All-Ivy by the league's coaches. Senior longsnapper Michael Davidson earned Phil Steele Third Team honors last season after helping the Bears go 25-for-26 on PATs and 10-for-12 on field goals, including 7-of-8 from inside 40 yards.
On the preseason third team, Walker ranked third on Brown with 28 catches in seven games last season, totaling 292 yards and three touchdowns en route to being named Fourth Team Phil Steele All-Ivy. Lane led the team with 4.0 sacks last season and a blocked punt, finishing with 21.0 tackles. Lane also tied for the team lead with Philbin with 6.0 tackles for loss, while Philbin added in 2.5 sacks. Gamble enjoyed a breakout junior season by ranking third on the team with 42.0 tackles, including one sack and added a quarterback hit.
Brown will kick off the 2023 season on Saturday, September 16 at Bryant, with the home opener coming two weeks later on September 30 against Central Connecticut State.
