Brown Rowers Collect Six Medals at World Rowing Under-23 Championships

PLOVDIR, Bulgaria – Representatives from both the Brown men's and women's crew programs competed at the 2023 World Rowing Under-23 Championships, held from July 19-23 in Bulgaria.
Brown men's crew had six student-athletes representing their countries and Brown women's crew had three Americans competing across the Atlantic Ocean. In total, six Bears picked up medals with podium finishes.
Two women's crew standouts, Dahlia Levine and Olivia Vavasour, rowed alongside each other in the United States Eight boat and claimed a four-second victory over Germany in the Final to take the gold medal. The American crew posted a 2.5-second win over Germany in the opening heat earlier in the Championship.
Annie Herring represented the United States in the double sculls alongside Oklahoma's Megan Walsh and ultimately finished fourth in the 'B' final.
On the men's side, the American trio of Ian Burnett, Jack DiGiovanni, and Josh Golbus reached the podium with a second-place finish in the men's eight. The U.S. crew fell to three-time defending champion Great Britain in the final while edging out third-place Germany.
Connor Brown rowed with the Great Britain coxed four and picked up a silver medal with a strong weekend. Brown and the boat posted a time of 6:12.00 to finish ahead of the United States (6:12.76) and behind Italy (6:09.19).
Keyan O'Donnell competed in the quadruple sculls crew for Great Britain and narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish. They were less than two seconds behind third-place Australia.
Willem Stoop rounded out the competitors the Netherlands men's eight crew. Stoop and the Dutch boat reached the 'A' Final and clocked a time of 5:31.95 to finish just behind Australia and ahead of Romania.
