
Women's Hockey Announces Class of 2027

Brown Head Women's Hockey Coach Melanie Ruzzi has announced the seven-member class of 2027 and one sophomore transfer.
The Class is made up of Sam Broz, Miranda Calderone, Ava DeCoste, Rory Edwards, transfer-student Gali Levy, Margot Norehad, Elodie Roy and Shauna Vadeboncoeur.
“Each of the young women joining the program bring a different skill set that will contribute to our quest to rise the ranks of the ECAC,” said Ruzzi. "The common thread among them is a passion for the game and for competing alongside a locker room full of invested and caring women. I look forward to welcoming them to College Hill!"

Sam Broz
Forward | Bloomington, Minn. | The Blake School / Minnesota Junior Whitecaps

- Played five years of high school hockey
- Three-time All-Conference
- Team MVP
- Tallied 73 goals and 80 assists for 153 points during high school career
- Finished with 35 goals and 32 assists for 67 points senior year.

Miranda Calderone
Defense | Bethesda, Md. | Williston Northampton / Connecticut Polar Bears / BK Selects

- NEPSAC Champion, undefeated season (2023)
- Named to All-NEPSAC First Team (2023)
- Two-time New York State champion (BK Selects 2021, 2022)
- Team Captain (U16, 2021)

Ava DeCoste
Forward | Plymouth, Mass. | Williston Northampton School / East Coast Wizards

- Assistant Captain at Williston Northampton School Ice Hockey 2022-2023 season
- NEPSAC All-New England First team 2023
- Back-to-back NEPSAC Elite 8 Division Champions in 2022 and 2023
- Selected for the USA Hockey U16/17 National Development Camp in 2021 and 2022
- Won Massachusetts State championship in 2021 with the East Coast Wizards
- Awarded Computer Science Principles Prize 2023
Why Brown: “I chose Brown to move forward in my academic and athletic journeys. The open curriculum instantly peaked my interest as it will give me the freedom to explore courses in an environment I’m confident will push me to achieve my goals. I am excited to be a part of the Brown Ice Hockey program. I know I will be able to take my playing abilities to the next level under the highly experienced coaching staff, while training alongside other passionate individuals.”
Rory Edwards
Goaltender | Schomberg, Ontario | Bill Crothers Secondary School

- Played for the U22 Barrie Junior Sharks
- Put up a .934% save percentage, 2.02 goals against average, and three shutouts in one season.
- Part of the Team Ontario U18 High Performance Program.
Why Brown: “Unbeatable education on the best campus I have ever been on. Coaching staff was kind, honest and have a plan that I can see myself apart of. Excited to explore Brown's open curriculum and other academic offerings, while being apart of a growing hockey program."
Gali Levy
Forward | Newton, Mass. | Ohio State University / Buckingham Browne & Nichols School

- Transfer from Ohio State University
- Member of the class of 2026
- Part of the 2022-23 team that advanced to the National Championship Game
- Won the 2021 Massachusetts State Championship
- Two-time U.S. National Development Camp attendee

Margot Norehad

- Made honor role for four consecutive years

Elodie Roy
Defender | Stanstead, Quebec | Stanstead College

- JWHL Defensemen of the Year nominee
- JWHL Second All-Star team
- Team Quebec member 2022
- Two-time NAPHA champion with Stanstead college 2019-2020
- Major "S" sweater for Varsity girls hockey (awarded to the best players on every team)
- Black Sweater (awarded to the best student-athlete in the school for the winter term)
- Female student-athlete recruit at the provincial level 2018
- Dodge cup provincial champions 2018
Why Brown: “Brown offers an elite education. Also during my visit, I found the campus absolutely beautiful and I simply felt at home. Hockey is another primary reason why i chose Brown. I want to compete at the highest level, and I am confident that the hockey program and the coaches at Brown are the right ones for me. I know I will be able to fulfill my athletic, academic and even my artistic aspirations, which is all i could ask for."
