Women's Crew Wins Seven Races on First Day of Big Ten Invitational

SARASOTA, Fla. – No. 6 ranked Brown women's crew won each of its seven races on day one of the Big Ten Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota on Friday.
"This race is a good opportunity to see where we are at this point in the season against excellent competition," said John Murphy, Loyalty Chair for Women's Crew. "We are pleased with the way our team raced today and we are looking forward to doing it all again tomorrow."
The Second Varsity 8, First Varsity 8, Second Varsity 4 and First Varsity 4 posted wins over 11th-ranked Ohio State and 12th-ranked Duke. Later in the day, Brown's 2V8, 1V8 and 1V4 all came in first over 20th-ranked Indiana.
Brown's 2V8 raced first and finished with a time of 6:31.867, less than one second ahead of Ohio State (6:32.601). The Bears and Buckeyes were able to break away from Duke (6:39.197) and Rutgers (6:40.656) for the close finish.
The 1V8 was pushed to the final moments of the race with a winning time of 6:24.421, beating Ohio State (6:26.386), Duke (6:32.514) and Rutgers (6:37.728).
Later in the morning it was the B4 winning the closest race of the entire day. The Bears finished with a time of 7:16.554, which was .015 seconds faster than Ohio State (7:16.569). Duke was right there as well (7:18.211) and in fourth place was Rutgers (7:24.714).
Brown's A4 left no doubt with a first-place time of 7:01.485. Which was nearly five seconds ahead of Duke (7:07.473), 11 seconds faster than Ohio State (7:13.940) and 17 seconds ahead of Rutgers (7:19.552).
The second half of the day started with the 2V8 taking its second victory of the day with a time of 6:33.475. That time was ahead of Indiana (6:38.941), Wisconsin (6:46.177) and UCF (6:57.117).
Immediately after it was the 1V8 taking care of business, clocking in at 6:26.452. Following the Bears were Indiana (6:31.872), Wisconsin (6:40.158) and UCF (6:57.021).
The final race of the day belonged to the A4 and Brown capped off the perfect day with a time of 7:08.830. After the Bears were Indiana (7:24.109), UCF (7:25.015) and Wisconsin (7:42.755).
