PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University's Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Recreation/Chief Operating Officer Marvin Lewis has been named George Mason University's Assistant Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, effective July 1, 2023.
Lewis joined Brown in July 2021 and served on the Division's executive leadership team, overseeing external relations, human resources, business administration, facilities and operations, and equipment. Lewis also served as sport administrator for men's basketball, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, and women's soccer.
Lewis was an integral player in the development of the Division's strategic plan, visual identity refresh, new fan engagement initiatives, five-year financial model, and professional development programming.
"Marvin is an incredibly talented administrator who has had a profound impact at Brown in a short amount of time. I will always be grateful that he agreed to be part of my initial leadership team after returning to College Hill," said M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D., the Samuel M. Mencoff '78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation. "George Mason is fortunate to get a great leader in Marvin."
Lewis becomes the fourth Deputy Athletic Director under Calhoun's leadership to become a Director of Athletics, joining Pat Kraft (Penn State), Alanna W. Shanahan (Penn), and Sherryta Freeman (Lafayette).
"This is an incredibly exciting opportunity that I'm ready to begin," said Lewis. "I want to thank Grace and President Christina H. Paxson for my time at Brown, and I will forever be grateful for the amazing things our team was able to accomplish in a short period."
