Women's Hockey Signs Echo Yale Through Team Impact

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's ice hockey head coach Melanie Ruzzi announced a new team member, signing 13-year-old Echo Yale through Team IMPACT.
Echo, who has hemiplegia due to a perinatal stroke, was officially introduced at a signing day press conference on Sunday, March 19th, in Providence, just prior to the team's end of season banquet. They will participate in many activities with the team including games, practices, and other team events.
Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
"Team IMPACT is excited to see Echo officially join the Bears," said Danielle Hardee, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast at Team IMPACT. "We are proud to work alongside Brown University, their athletic department, and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates."
Brown University has worked with Team IMPACT for the past 11 years, matching 28 children across its baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, men's swimming, men's tennis, men's wrestling, softball, co-ed track and field, and men's water polo teams.
"We have been so lucky to be introduced to Echo and their family at the tail end of the season," said Ruzzi. "To make Echo an official member of the Brown Women's Hockey program at the banquet was a very special moment and a fun way to kick start an even stronger relationship heading into the spring."
