Women's Tennis Upsets Penn in First Round of ECAC Championship

HANOVER, N.H. – Brown women's tennis captured a dominant, 4-0, sweep over Penn in the first round of the ECAC Championship Friday night at the Boss Tennis Center at Dartmouth College.

The Bears, who entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed, earned the win against the favored Quakers who were ranked No. 2 coming into the day.

"Our players came out with great energy and total clarity of how they wanted to play and compete," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "We played aggressively from the first point of doubles and carried that momentum into singles. I was proud of our team's performance tonight. We look forward to taking on Columbia tomorrow in the semifinals."

Brown picked up the doubles point behind wins from senior Britany Lau and sophomore Addison Ahlstrom (6-3) and junior Nora Lee and freshman Vivian Miller (6-2).

In singles, Miller (6-1, 6-0), Ali Benedetto (6-4, 6-2) and junior Olivia Mariotti (6-2, 6-2) all secured victories to complete the sweep. Freshman Phoebe Peus and sophomore Addison Ahlstrom were winning their matches before they went unfinished.
