Volleyball Downed in Four Sets at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown volleyball (15-5, 6-4 Ivy) lost in four sets to Princeton (10-8, 7-3 Ivy) on Saturday night, 25-16, 23-25, 21-25, 12-25. Brown earned a win in the first set but lost the next three to the Tigers.
Kate Sheire led Brown's offense with 11 kills and Jilienne Widener had 10 as Widener collected double-figure kills for the second-straight match. Both Cierra Jenkins and Beau Vanderlaan had eight kills and Jenkins guided Brown's offense with 33 assists.
On defense, Jessie Golden finished with 17 digs and Kayla Griebl was second on the team with nine. Gabby Derrick led Brown's net defense with four blocks.
Brown took the first set as the Bears jumped ahead early, scoring five-straight points to go up 9-3. As Princeton climbed back into the set, Brown used a 7-2 run to go ahead 17-11. Kills by Widener, Sidorova and Jenkins gave Brown set point and Brown's fifth ace of the set, this one from Golden gave Brown the set win.
Princeton used a 5-0 run to take a 19-15 lead in the second but Brown eight of the next 10 points as the Bears went ahead 23-21. Brown couldn't earn set point as the Bears gave up four-straight points to Princeton as the Tigers took the set.
Brown fell behind 7-1 in the third but climbed back with three-straight kills by Widener to pull within one at 11-10. Princeton answered with five of the next six points and had an answer for every run the Bears tried to put together. With Brown making the score 20-17, the teams traded points for the rest of the set.
A 6-1 run in the fourth set gave Princeton control at 18-9 and the Bears were not able to claw their way back.
UP NEXT
Brown remains on the road next weekend for matches at Harvard on Friday (Nov. 3) and Dartmouth (Nov. 4).
