
Kahele Named to Team USA Ahead of 2021 Rugby World Cup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's rugby assistant coach Bridget Kahele will represent the United States at the 2021 Rugby World Cup next month in New Zealand. Next month's tournament was scheduled to be played last year before being delayed.
Kahele is one of 32 named to the United States roster and makes her World Cup debut. She made her National Team debut last June against Canada and competes with Beantown RFC at the club level.
The United States are grouped in Pool B alongside Canada, Italy, and Japan. Pool A is comprised of Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, and Wales. Pool C is comprised of England, Fiji, France, and South Africa.
Nine Americans named to the roster represented the United States at the 2017 World Cup in Ireland while 23 Americans, including Kahele, will make their respective World Cup debuts.
The Eagles reached the semifinals at the 2017 World Cup and finished fourth overall.
Kahele and the Eagles depart on Friday (Sept. 23) for New Zealand before opening the World Cup against Italy on Saturday (Oct. 8) at Semenoff Stadium. The Eagles face Japan on Saturday (Oc. 15) at Semenoff Stadium and close pool play on Saturday (Oct. 22) against Canada at Waitakere Stadium.
