SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Junior Alix Hamon (Sandia Park, N.M.) placed second in the Introductory division at the 2022 IHSA Zone 1 Championships on Saturday to qualify for next month's IHSA National Finals in Pennsylvania.
Brown sent three riders to the Zone 1 Championships with Hamon and classmate Grace Skavdahl (Harrison, Neb.) competing in the Introductory and sophomore Samantha Weinerman (Chester, N.J.) competing in the open flat and open fences divisions.
Hamon's second-place finish makes her the fourth Bear since 2014 to qualify for the IHSA National Finals. The top-two finishers of each Division at the Zone Championships qualify for Nationals.
Skavdahl placed fourth in the introductory to finish her junior campaign strongly.
Weinerman placed sixth in the Open Fences division and seventh in the Open Flat division.
With the trip to Nationals, Hamon joins former Brown equestrian standouts to qualify for Nationals in the last nine years: Anna Seto (2017 – novice fences, 2018 – intermediate flat), Yinan Liu (2017 – walk-trot), and Kabisha Baughen (2014 – open fences).
The IHSA National Finals are scheduled to begin on Thursday (May 5) and continue through Sunday (May 8) at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
