Equestrian Posts First-Place Finish at Johnson & Wales IHSA Show

REHOBOTH, Mass. – The Brown Bears compiled a total of 38 points in the IHSA Johnson & Wales Show to finish first among nine teams. Host Johnson & Wales finished second with 30 points while Rhode Island finished third with 28 points.
Elena Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) pointed out of the limit flat division into the intermediate flat division in the Show. She finished second in the limit flat to pick up five points for the Bears.
Samantha Weinerman (Chester, N.J.) grabbed seven points for Brown with a first-place finish in the open flat division. She also finished third in the open fences for four points.
Daphne Maniatis (Chevy Chase, Md.) finished first in the limit fences for seven points.
In the intermediate fences, Sophie Butcher (Gisborne, Australia) took second.
Amber Keown-Lang (San Francisco, Calif.) picked up a third-place finish in the intermediate flat, grabbing four points with the finish.
Alix Hamon (Sandia Park, N.M.) and Orly Richter (Bethany, Conn.) placed second in the introductory and pre-novice, respectively, to both pick up five points.
All seven Bears who competed captured points in the victory.
The Bears continue IHSA competition at the University of Rhode Island Show, scheduled for Saturday (Mar. 12) at Mystic Valley Hunt Club in Gales Ferry, Connecticut.
