Equestrian Closes Season in Third at University of Rhode Island Show

GALES FERRY, Conn. – The Brown Equestrian team closed the regular season with a third-place finish at the University of Rhode Island Show Saturday at Mystic Valley Hunt Club. The Bears posted 24 points in the nine-team Show.
Sophomore Samantha Weinerman (Chester, N.J.) was named Reserve High Point Rider and placed first in the open fences division and second in the open flat division.
Junior Jonna Batten (Sacramento, Calif.) placed second in the Pre-Novice division to point out into Novice. Senior Maya Taylor (Albuquerque, N.M.) also placed second in the Pre-Novice with sophomores Ariel Montague (Chicago, Ill.) and Sienna Lew (Chiang Mai, Thailand) placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore Jessica Jacyno (Sweetwater, Tenn.), first-year Lauren Lee Hing (Calgary, Alta.), sophomore Orly Richter (Bethany, Conn.), and senior Stephanie Vartany (Los Angeles, Calif.) also competed in the Pre-Novice.
Juniors Alix Hamon (Sandia Park, N.M.) and Grace Skavdahl (Harrison, Neb.) both finished first in the Introductory division and pointed out into Pre-Novice. Junior Linda Wang (Beijing, China) and senior Dana Lannen (Anchorage, Alaska) placed second and third, respectively.
Sophie Butcher (Gisborne, Australia) finished fourth in the Intermediate Flat division with senior Elena Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) finishing in fifth. Sophomore Amber Kweon-Lang (San Francisco, Calif.) also competed for the Bears.
Butcher also finished sixth in the Intermediate Fences division while Kweon-Lang also competed.
In the Limit Fences, Newman finished fourth and junior Daphne Maniatis (Chevy Chase, Md.) took fifth. Maniatis placed fifth in the Limit Flat division.
In the Novice division, Ariana Zwern took sixth.
SHOW NOTES
Hamon and Skavdahl will compete in the Introductory, Maniatis in the Novice, Newman in the Limit Flat, and Weinerman in both the Open Fences and Open Flat.
