Equestrian Returns to Action to Place Second at URI Show

GALES FERRY, Conn. – The Brown equestrian team resumed competition on Saturday (Feb. 19), posting 30 points to finish second among nine teams at the University of Rhode Island Show at Mystic Valley Hunt Club. Host Rhode Island won the event with 34 points and Roger Williams placed third with 25 points.
Sophomore Samantha Weinerman (Chester, N.J.) was named Reserve High Point Rider in the show after capturing the blue ribbon in the open fences and finishing second in the open flat events.
First-year Caroline Hwang (Rockville, Md.) earned the blue ribbon after a first-place finish in the Limit Flat. Junior Daphne Maniatis (Chevy Chase, Md.) placed third and senior Elena Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) placed fourth. Maniatis also placed fourth in the Limit Fences with Newman following in sixth.
Sophomore Amber Keown-Lang (San Francisco, Calif.) competed in a pair of events, placing fourth in the Intermediate Flate and sixth in the Intermediate Fences.
In the introductory, sophomore Alix Hamon (Sandia Park, N.M.) and senior Dana Lannen (Anchorage, Alaska) placed second with junior Grace Skavdahl (Harrison, Neb.) and Luoyun Wang (Beijing, China) placing third.
Sophomore Orly Richter (Bethany, Conn.) finished second in the pre-novice event with sophomore Ariel Montague (Chicago, Ill.), junior Jonna Batten (Sacramento, Calif.), and junior Maya Taylor (Albuquerque, N.M.) placing third through fifth, respectively.
