
Volleyball falls in tournament final against Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball battled until the end but fell short in the 2022 Ivy League Tournament, dropping a four-set match to Yale on Saturday. Sophia Miller and Kate Sheire were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Miller closed out her season in strong fashion, finishing the match with 22 kills and 13 digs. Miller also hit .254 in the match. Kayla Griebl finished with double-figure kills and collected a career-high 18 digs. Ella Park led Brown with 17 assists.
On defense, Jessie Golden led the Bears with 20 digs, followed by Griebl and Miller. Kate Danaher had 10 digs to go along with 17 assists.
Brown dropped both the first and second sets by 25-21 scores as the Bears's offense struggled to get going. Brown hit -.027 in the first set and .175 in the second set, falling behind 2-0.
The Bears jumped out to a 5-2 lead early in the third with three kills by Miller and an ace by Beau Vanderlaan. A 4-0 run that featured two blocks by the duo of Vanderlaan and Park pushed Brown's lead to 11-6 and the Bears went up 14-8 after a kill by Miller.
Yale battled back to take an 18-17 lead but the Bears responded with a 4-0 run, featuring two kills from Griebl. A kill by Vanderlaan and to errors from Yale gave Brown set point but Yale fought off four points to tie the set at 24. With the set tied at 25, Brown got a kill from Sheire and a Yale error to take set three, 27-25.
The Bears faced an uphill battle in the fourth set, falling behind 7-1 early but Brown battled back with two kills from Griebl in a 4-0 run to pull within one. After Brown pulled within one again, Yale scored five-straight points to take control of the set. Brown would not get back within five the rest of the set as Yale closed out the match.
