HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a defensive battle in the first quarter, Columbia jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead in the second quarter with a 30-yard pass on the opening play of the period, and later added a 60-yard scoring run and an 80-yard pass to go up by three scores at the 9:35 mark.
- Brown used an interception from Ochs to set up shop in Columbia territory, which led to a 36-yard drive capped by a one-yard scoring rush from Smith to make it 21-7 with 2:56 left until halftime.
- Brown kept the momentum rolling on their opening drive of the second half, going 75 yards on six plays before Smith broke a 45-yard run to paydirt to pull Brown within 21-14.
- Columbia pushed it back to 10 after turning an interception into three points with 12:17 remaining in regulation.
- Taking over at its own four-yard line, Gilman led Brown on a 96-yard scoring drive that was capped with a nine-yard touchdown run by DeLucia with 7:54 to play.
- Columbia went for it on 4th-and-4 from the Brown 17 with just over two minutes to go, but the Bears defense forced a turnover on downs as DeVeau broke up a pass in the end zone.
- Brown took over and drove into the red zone on 11 plays, tying the game as time expired on a 30-yard field goal by Alley.
- Starting on offense in overtime, Columbia converted two third downs, the second of which was a four-yard touchdown pass to give the Lions the lead.
- Columbia sealed the win with a three-and-out stand on Brown's possession.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: JAMES PERRY
- "I think the theme is that these kids work hard and they practice hard. I'm really proud of their effort across the board and in particular, how well and hard the defense played. Whenever you go to overtime, one of the teams is going to be tremendously disappointed and unfortunately it was us today, but it is certainly not for a lack of effort or preparation. As we head into our last game, I will lean heavily on what is a terrific senior class."
- "As a coach I will look very hard at things we can do to take care of the ball better. That is a point of emphasis for us. We will continue to try to put ourselves in a better position to do that and I know the kids will respond well."
- "Our defense was hungry to play well. To their credit, they came out today and did not yield. They were hitting and running straight to the end. Looking forward, I am positive that they will continue to play like that."
- "Everything that is a Brown football player, is what this senior class is all about. We are much better because of it and they want to win these games and I know I can lean on them for next week against Dartmouth."
