PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (8-7, 1-4 Ivy League) closed the non-conference slate with a 4-0 home loss against the 13th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons (12-4, 4-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.
Jodie Brine recorded 10 saves in goal for the Bears, marking the second double-digit save performance of her career. Sunday afternoon's game also marked the first-ever Brown Field Hockey game televised on NESN.
The Demon Deacons quickly received three penalty corner opportunities early in the opening quarter and on the third chance it was Ashley Hart who broke through with an assist from Sky Caron 2:05 into the game.
Brown settled into the game for a stretch of the first quarter with play moving up and down the field. In the final minute of the opening frame, Wake Forest doubled its lead as Meike Lanckohr gathered a pass from Nat Friedman and beat Brine with a quick shot.
The second quarter went scoreless as the Demon Deacons took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Bears nearly struck early in the third quarter as Lexi Pellegrino had a grade 'A' scoring chance at the top of the circle. Pellegrino rifled a shot on goal, but Wake Forest goalkeeper Ellie Todd (3 saves) stretched her right leg to rob the Westwood, Massachusetts native of a goal.
Halfway through the third, Wake added a third goal as Lee Ann Gordon tipped a Nat Friedman shot on the far post off the Deacons' eighth penalty corner of the game.
Imogen Govan got behind the Wake Forest defense early in the fourth quarter and drew a penalty corner chance for the Bears. Brown had two corners to work with, but neither shot found the target.
Anna Gwiazdzinski added the fourth Wake Forest goal with 3:31 remaining in the fourth quarter with Hart picking up the assist.
Brown returns to Ivy League play in the final two games of the season and heads to the Garden State to take on the tenth-ranked Princeton Tigers (11-4, 5-0 Ivy League) at noon on Sunday (Oct. 30). Sunday's game will stream on ESPN+.
