Women's Crew Members Fare Well in US and Abroad

PROVIDENCE, RI -Â The current and incoming members of the Brown Women's Crew team had a particularly strong showing this summer at US and international regattas.
"We are extremely impressed with the energy and accomplishments of these team members and we look forward to having them all back at Brown and racing for us in the months to come," said Head Coach John Murphy.
At the U23 World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, Izzy Aronin '23 coxed the US Women's 8 to a gold medal. This was the first World Championship for Izzy.
Elsewhere, in her first international appearance at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Annie Herring '25 finished 6th in the final of the Women's Quad.
At the Henley Royal Regatta at Henley-on-Thames, England, Freya Keto '22 raced in the final of the Princess Grace Challenge Cup which proved to be one of the best races of the regatta with numerous lead changes. Freya, who raced in the 4 seat of Brown's 2021 varsity 8 and at Henley, raced in the 2 seat of a composite crew of Thames Rowing Club and Neptune Rowing Club, Ireland.
Also at Henley, Ruby O'Keeffe '24 and Aurelia Cowan '24 raced for the Tideway Scullers School of London and were semi-finalists in the Wargrave Challenge Cup. Ruby and Aurelia also rowed for Scullers at the Women's Henley Regatta, June 17 – 19 and won gold in the Women's AC 8.
At the 2021 US Rowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota FL, June 10-13, Brown had strong results from its incoming class of 2025. Annie Herring representing the Hockaday School in Dallas, TX raced in the single scull and finished with a bronze medal. Â Representing PRNA/Mercer, Riley Cooper '25 also won a bronze medal in the pairs event.
In the Women's 8, Brown had incoming team members in four of the six boats in the grand final. Nadia Vondeling from Rose City Rowing Club, Portland, OR, finished in 6th place. Jess McGrady '25 from CRI in Boston finished in 4th place. Peyton Holleb '25 and Chloe Kurka '25 won the bronze in stroke and 7 respectively for the Chicago Rowing Foundation. The gold medal went to Greenwich Crew with Caroline Schmitz '25 in the stroke seat.
At the US Rowing Summer National Championship, July 13-18, on the Cooper River in Camden NJ, Brown Women's Crew was again well represented. Â In the Women's U23, 8+ it was Greenwich Crew again taking the gold with Isabel Wilkowski '24 in the stroke seat and Caroline Schmitz '25 in the 6 seat. Caroline also won bronze in the Women's U19 pair and silver in the U19 4+. Riley Cooper '25 racing with PRNA/Mercer had another good day taking 5th in both the U23 4- and The U23 pair.
