PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University Women's Volleyball Team released its 2021 schedule today. The Bears open up the season on Friday, September 3 at Bryant University when they meet the host Bulldogs on day one of a two-day tournament which also includes Boston College and Holy Cross.
Despite not having a 2020 season due to COVID, the Bears will be looking to build on the momentum established in the 2019 season when they registered a (13-10) record - the program's first winning record since 2001.
Fourth-year head coach Ahen Kim is excited about the schedule and the upcoming season. "As I look forward to our 2021 season, we have put together a challenging schedule that features three Power Five opponents in Boston College, North Carolina State and Rutgers," Kim said.  "With ten new student-athletes on our roster we will need to learn and grow quickly prior to League play, and I hope our preseason schedule provides us with those opportunities. We will need to lean on our upperclassmen for some leadership as we navigate a new season with so much youth. This season comes on the heels of unprecedented shutdown in sport, and our staff looks forward to seeing how our team will overcome and compete."
The Bears return All-Ivy performers Kaitlyn Wong (Jr. - Los Altos, CA) and Sophia Miller (Jr. - Dallas, Texas).
Miller is the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year (2019). She ranked second in the conference in kills per set (3.42), third in points per set (3.75), and 10th in digs per set (2.94). Miller also stood second in the league in kills per set (4.16), second in points per set (4.47), and eighth in digs per set (3.30) in Ivy play.
Wong ranked fifth in the Ivy League in digs per set (3.84) in 2019 and stood third in the conference in digs per set (4.19) in Ivy play.
Brown has four seniors who will be looked to provide leadership for this young squad. They are Paris Winkler (Sr. - Rancho Santa Fe, CA), Ashley Oelrich (Sr. - Newberry, FL), Kristin Sellers (Sr. - Menlo Park, CA) and Catherine Mihm (Sr. - Rolling Hills, CA).
The Bears first home match will be on Tuesday, September 7 against Bryant at 7pm.
