PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University football will host five games – including the Governor's Cup and three Ivy League games – as part of its 10-game schedule for the 2021 season, Brown head coach James Perry announced on Wednesday.
Highlights from the Bears' 143rd season of football include the season and home opener against the University of Rhode Island on Sept. 18, the Ivy League opener at Harvard on Sept. 25, and three Ivy home games against Princeton (Oct. 16), Yale (Nov. 6), and Dartmouth (Nov. 20).
Following a 2020 season in which the Bears were unable to compete, Brown will play its home and season opener against URI on Sept. 18 – a span of 665 days since the program hosted Dartmouth on Nov. 23, 2019. Brown and URI will meet in the 105th Governor's Cup game. The Bears will make their debut on the newly installed turf at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium.
In its first road matchup of the season, Brown will travel to Harvard on Saturday, Sept. 25. The contest will mark a span of 671 days since the Bears' last Ivy League game. Brown and Harvard will meet for the 120th time.
Brown then heads to Smithfield, R.I., to face in-state rival Bryant University on Oct. 2. In 2019 in the fifth meeting all-time between the two teams, quarterback EJ Perry (Andover, Mass.) tallied five touchdowns and 410 yards of total offense in a 35-30 win.
The Bears then host consecutive games at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium, taking on non-league foe Colgate on Oct. 9 and Ivy League opponent Princeton on Oct. 16. Brown will face Colgate for the 57th time and will meet Princeton for the 87th time.
Following that homestand, Brown will take part in back-to-back Ivy League road games at Cornell on Oct. 23 and at Penn on Oct. 30. Brown will face Cornell for the 68th time and take on Penn for the 89th time.
Over the final three weeks of the season, Brown will host Yale (Nov. 6), play at Columbia (Nov. 13), and host Dartmouth (Nov. 20) in its season finale as the Bears conclude the year with six consecutive Ivy games. Brown will meet Yale for the 125th time, Columbia for the 85th time, and Dartmouth for the 98th time.
The Ivy League is set to announce a six-game linear television package in the coming weeks.
In 2019, the Brown offense averaged 30.0 points per game, more than doubling the scoring output from the year prior. The Bears averaged 454.4 yards of total offense – 15th best in the nation – and threw for 301.1 yards per game – 10th in the nation.
