Women’s Crew Advances All Three Boats to Petite Finals on NCAA Day Two

SARASOTA, Fla. – Brown University women's crew advanced all three boats – the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four – to the petite finals following the second day of racing at the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships on Saturday morning at Nathan Benderson Park.
All three of the Bears boats placed fourth in their respective semifinals, coming one spot shy of the final grand final qualifying spot in each race. Brown has competed in all 24 NCAA Championships since the event's inception in 1997 and has advanced its boats to either the petite or grand finals in 68 of 72 opportunities.
On Sunday, Brown's varsity four will race in the petite final at 9:48 a.m., the second varsity eight will compete in the petite final at 10:12 a.m., and the first varsity eight will conclude Brown's racing at NCAAs in the petite final at 10:36 a.m.

Five schools – Michigan, Stanford, Texas, Virginia, Washington – qualified all three boats to the grand finals. Ohio State's 2V8 and V4 and Rutgers' 1V8 rounded out the 18-boat grand final field.

Brown's 17th-seeded first varsity eight placed fourth in A/B semifinal two out of lane five with a time of 6:17.996, advancing to the petite final. The Bears topped No. 8 seed California (6:18.770) by 0.774 seconds and No. 9 seed Princeton (6:29.980) by 11.94 seconds, while falling to No. 4 seed Virginia (6:15.426) by 2.570 seconds. Brown bested the Golden Bears and Tigers for the second time at NCAAs after beating both in the heats.
