Women’s Crew Takes All Races from Boston University, Holy Cross, Boston College

BOSTON, Mass. – Brown University women's crew took all five races from Boston University, Holy Cross, and Boston College on Saturday morning on the Charles River in the program's first away race of the season.

"It was good racing today in fair conditions, and we want to thank BU, Holy Cross and BC for inviting us to join," Brown head coach John Murphy said.

Racing for the first time since sweeping all four races from the University of Rhode Island on April 3 in the first event for Brown Athletics in 388 days, the Bears – the top-ranked team in Region 1 in the NCAA Regional Rankings from April 21 – topped host BU – the No. 4 ranked team in Region 2 – and Holy Cross in the first varsity eight and second varsity eight, bested the Terriers and BC in the A varsity four and B varsity four, and defeated the Eagles in the C varsity four.

Opening the day with the first varsity eight, Brown took first place with a time of 7:03.2 beating BU (7:24.2) by 21.0 seconds and Holy Cross (8:00.8) by 57.6 seconds.

In the second varsity eight, the Bears won the race behind a time of 7:09.4 eclipsing the Terriers (7:33.9) by 24.5 seconds and the Crusaders (8:24.8) by 1:15.4.

In the final NCAA event of the day, Brown took the A varsity four race with a time of 8:04.1, topping BU (8:43.9) by 39.8 seconds and BC (8:44.1) by 40.0 seconds.

Brown won the B varsity four, clocking in with a time of 8:09.9, finishing ahead of BU (8:45.6) by 35.7 seconds and BC (8:49.9) by 40.0 seconds.

Closing the day with the C varsity four, Brown (8:15.2) defeated BC (8:34.8) by 19.6 seconds.

The Bears last raced BU on April 23, 2016 at Cornell, sweeping all four races from the Terriers. Brown met Holy Cross in its first race as a varsity program in 1974.
