
Football Announces Perry, Smith as 2021 Team Captains

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University football senior quarterback EJ Perry and junior running back Allen Smith are set to serve the Bears as team captains for the 2021 season, Brown head coach James Perry announced on Tuesday.

Both Perry (Andover, Mass.) and Smith (Westerville, Ohio) are coming off breakout 2019 seasons.

Perry led the nation in total offense (367.8 yards per game) and set an Ivy League record for total offense (3,678 yards) in 2019 after transferring to Brown from Boston College. He earned First Team All-Ivy honors and was a finalist for the Asa Bushnell Cup as the Ivy League Player of the Year. Perry led the Bears in passing (2,948 yards) and rushing (730 yards) in 2019 with his 2,948 passing yards ranking fifth all-time at Brown and 15th in Ivy League history. In 2020, he was selected as a Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American.

Smith led the Brown running backs with 550 rushing yards on 118 attempts in 2019, and his eight rushing touchdowns tied for the team lead. He ran for over 100 yards in each of two games, marking the first two 100-yard rushing games of his career. Smith rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns at Columbia and carried for 109 yards and a score vs. Princeton. He also led the Bears in rushing in 2018 with 175 yards on 41 carries.
