Throughout the month of March, Brown Athletics will celebrate Women's History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize women who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.

Portia Johnson McGee '01 won a variety of medals while competing for the Bears before going on to row for the U.S. National Team. As a freshman in 1998, she took silver in the novice eight at the Eastern Sprints, silver in the varsity four at the NCAA Championships, and silver in the team trophy at NCAAs. In the following two years, she captured back-to-back gold medals in the varsity eight at Eastern Sprints and the NCAA Championships alongside consecutive team national titles at NCAAs. As a senior she concluded her career with gold at Easterns in the varsity eight, silver at NCAAs in the varsity eight, and bronze at NCAAs in the team trophy. After winning bronze and silver medals at the U23 World Championships in 1999 and 2001, Johnson McGee competed at the World Championships in 2002, 2006, and 2007 capturing bronze and gold medals along the way. In 2008, she competed at the Olympic Games, taking seventh in the pair. Johnson McGee assumed the role of National Rowing Foundation Development Coordinator after previously serving as the Director of Major Gifts at The Hun School.
