
Women's History Month 2021: Tomo Nakanishi '00, Volleyball

Throughout the month of March, Brown Athletics will celebrate Women's History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize women who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.
Tomo Nakanishi '00, Volleyball
A four-time First Team All-Ivy selection, Tomo Nakanishi '00 holds Brown records for career kills (1,716) and digs (1,762). She earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 1996 and gained Ivy League Player of the Year in 1998. She helped lead the Bears to Ivy League titles in both of those years, including an undefeated Ivy League season in 1998, the first in school history. In her freshman year, Nakanishi helped lead the Bears to their first NCAA Volleyball Championship appearance. Nakanishi was instrumental in the Bears' undefeated Ivy season in 1998, as she earned Ivy Tournament MVP honors. As a senior in 1999, Nakanishi garnered several accolades, including Academic All-Ivy, the USAA All-American Scholar Award, and the Arthur Ashe Jr. Award. Nakanishi earned induction into the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. After graduating from Brown with a degree in Business Economics, she went to work for Denso Corporation in Japan. Fluent in English, Japanese, and Chinese, Nakanishi has traveled extensively for business, including to Egypt, U.A.E., Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand.
