Field Hockey Falls to 11th-Ranked Harvard to Close 2021 Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 11th-ranked Harvard Crimson (15-1, 7-0 Ivy) closed the regular season with a 4-0 win over the Brown Bears (6-11, 2-5 Ivy) Saturday afternoon in Cambridge.
"I'm proud of the way we fought today and the way we played all season," said head coach Jill Reeve. "Though Harvard may have had the edge today, I am feeling very optimistic about this team's future."
Harvard scored with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter on its second penalty corner of the game. Hannah Pearce fired from the top of the circle to beat Jodie Brine (12 saves) to record her 13th goal of the season.
Harvard had three shots on goal in the second quarter, all turned aside by Brine.
The Crimson tallied two goals 14 seconds apart early in the third quarter to make it 3-0. Mazarine Broze potted the first goal with Mimi Tarrant added the third goal for the commanding lead.
Brown's offense had two chances late in the third quarter off the stick of Danielle van Rootselaar, but Harvard goalkeeper Ellie Shahbo (4 saves) turned aside both shots.
Rachel Greenwood added a fourth Crimson goal 1:59 into the fourth quarter.
Stacey Lukasheva had the final scoring chance of the game, but Shahbo made the save with 1:40 remaining until the final horn.
Both teams had four penalty corner opportunities in the match. Harvard finished with a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal.
