PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The Brown equestrian team placed fourth in the Roger Williams Show, held Saturday (Oct. 30) at Nora Green Equestrian Center in Portsmouth. The Bears finished the show with 25 points, finishing behind Rhode Island, Roger Williams, and Johnson & Wales.
"This was another strong showing from a young team," said head coach Michaela Scanlon. "Captain Daphne Maniatis received a well-earned Reserve High Point Rider recognition."
Daphne Maniatis (Chevy Chase, Md.) led the Bears to the finish, taking first in the Limit Flat and was Reserve High Point Rider in the show.
Samantha Weinerman (Chester, N.J.) captured a blue ribbon as the first place finisher in the Open Flat. Weinerman also took third in the Open Fences.
Maniatis and Elena Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) both finished third in the Limit Fences. Newman also competed in the Limit Flat for the Bears and Sophia Butcher (Gisborne, Australia) represented Brown in the Intermediate Flat and Intermediate Fences.
In the Pre-Novice, Simone Zhao (Beiing, China) finished fourth and teammate Maya Taylor (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished fifth.
In the Introductory, Grace Skavdahl and Alix Hamon finished first and sixth, respectively.
The Bears return to competition next Saturday (Nov. 6) at the Johnson & Wales Show, held at the JWU Equine Center in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
