
Chan, Goss Earn Brown Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Women's fencing freshman Casey Chan and men's lacrosse senior goalie Phil Goss have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Mar. 2-8, Brown announced on Monday.

Freshman Casey Chan captured bronze in women's sabre to lead Brown at the 2020 NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday at Cornell University's Barton Hall. A native of Cresskill, N.J., Chan led the Bears' group of three fencers to reach the final round of 12 with her third-place finish out of 45 competitors in women's sabre, completing the tournament with a 16-7 overall record and besting her No. 14 seed position. Chan's run to bronze included a 5-1 record in round two, 3-3 mark in round three, and 8-3 record in round four.

Senior goalie Phil Goss made 16 saves to help Brown defeat No. 8 Virginia, 14-13, on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 1,920 fans at the Center for Lacrosse and Soccer at Stevenson-Pincince Field. A native of San Francisco, Calif., Goss tallied nine of his 16 saves in the second half as the Bears turned an 8-4 halftime deficit into a 12-10 lead entering the fourth quarter. After Brown took a 13-12 lead in the fourth quarter Goss stopped four shots in the final 6:06.
