Brown University athletics will be recognizing its fall senior student-athletes who have had their season put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior student-athletes will be featured during the week on Brownbears.com and various social media platforms.
Â
Name:Â Joanne Won
Hometown:Â Newport Beach, Calif.Â
Sport:Â Volleyball
Concentration:Â Cognitive ScienceÂ
Â
Favorite experience as a Brown student-athlete:Â
My favorite experience of being a student-athlete at Brown would have to be the acknowledgement of how privileged we are to use some of the best athletic facilities while receiving an unequivocal academic education. I developed some of the most important relationships, mentorships, and human connections that I will always carry with me past my college days.
Favorite spot on campus:
My favorite spot on campus was Benefit Street Juice Bar and Café (before they closed down due to COVID related reasons), but my memories and hope for a reopening live on!
Something you can't live without:
Something I cannot live without are hugs (: human touch is so special and the ability to empathize with and comfort others translates to hugs for me.Â
Most memorable match:
The most memorable game would have to be playing Princeton at home my freshman year and running into a packed gym (never has it been that packed again in my years) and also having my parents watch my first Ivy League match in person. I was wearing a bright red jersey (as the libero) and I remember being so nervous but also feeling extremely humbled that somehow, I finally made it.
