HANOVER, N.H. – The Brown women's tennis team defeated Binghamton, 7-0, on Saturday at the Dartmouth Invite. The Bears won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches for the sweep.
"We didn't start the match with the same intensity as our match against Boston College, but the team bounced back well and we were able to finish the match the right way," said head coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "We are playing a tough Dartmouth team tomorrow and it will be important to compete with intensity and focus from the first to the last point of the match."
Junior Peri Sheinin (East Greenwich, R.I.) and freshman Britany Lau (Kinnelon, N.J.) got the Bears going in doubles play with a 6-0 showing in the third spot. Senior Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) and junior Courtney Kowalsky (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) followed with a 6-3 sin in first doubles while sophomores Julia Newman (Natick, Mass.) and Ryan Peus (Palos Verdes, Calif.) concluded the round with a 7-6 (7-4) win in the second position.
Sheinin next posted the first singles win for Brown in the sixth spot, 6-0, 6-2, while her doubles teammate, Lau, followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win in third singles. Newman and Peus then both recorded 6-2, 6-2 wins in fifth and fourth singles, respectively. Jack came from behind to take her first singles match, 4-6, 6-1 (10-4) and Kowalsky closed out the contest with a 7-5, 6-3 victory (second singles).
