Women’s Tennis Falls to Boston College, 6-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team was defeated by Boston College, 6-1, at the Pizzitola Sports Center in its first action of the spring season on Monday.

"I was pleased with our doubles play today," said head coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "We came out playing aggressively and followed our game plan through the last point of our doubles play. We still need to work on the same level of discipline in our singles play. It's important to stay focused on the process of getting more emotionally disciplined and stick with our performance goals in each match we play."

The Bears opened the match by taking the doubles point for a 1-0 advantage with wins in the second and third spots. Sophomore Julia Newman (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Ryan Peus (Palos Verdes, Calif.) teamed up for a 6-1 showing in second doubles while senior Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) and sophomore Sophia Reddy (Eden Prairie, Minn.) took their third doubles match, 6-2.

Despite three matches going to three sets, the Eagles would win all six singles matches. Freshman Britany Lau (Kinnelon, N.J.) came back after falling in her first set (6-4) in second singles and won the second, 6-3, but would fall in the deciding set (6-2). Junior Courtney Kowalsky (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) (4-6, 6-2, 3-6, third) and Peus (6-7, 6-4, 2-6, fourth) also battled back in their matches.

The Bears will next compete at the Dartmouth Invite, playing against Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1:00 p.m. and host Dartmouth on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 11:00 a.m.
