
Volleyball Tops Holy Cross, 3-2, Falls to UNH, 3-1, at Holly Young Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Makena Ehlert tallied a pair of double-doubles on the day as Brown University volleyball defeated Holy Cross, 3-2 (22-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-14, 15-11), and fell to the University of New Hampshire, 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-20), on Saturday afternoon at UNH's Lundholm Gymnasium.

Closing their time at UNH's Holly Young Invitational, the Bears (2-1) rallied for a win in five sets over the Crusaders (0-6) in their second game of the day after falling to the host Wildcats (5-2) in four sets in their first contest of the afternoon. Brown went 2-1 at the tournament, including a 3-2 win over Seattle.

"Overall, this was a positive first tournament for our program," Brown head coach Ahen Kim said. "We showed some resiliency to come back and win two matches in five sets against quality opponents, and Makena Ehlert earned a well-deserved spot on the All-Tournament Team. We're looking forward to hosting North Dakota tomorrow in our home opener."

Ehlert (Orange, County, Calif.) gained her spot on the All-Tournament Team behind 45 kills (3.21 kills per set) and 39 digs (2.79 digs per set) on the weekend. In Saturday's doubleheader, she posted 30 kills (3.33 per set) and 31 digs (3.44 per set). Between Saturday's two matches, junior Tylin Stiller (Evergreen, Colo.) posted a .696 hitting percentage (16 kills, zero errors, 23 attempts).

Next, Brown completes its season-opening weekend tomorrow – Sunday, Sept. 8 – with its home opener against North Dakota at noon (ESPN+) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

UNH responded with a 25-14 win in set two to tie the match at one set apiece. Brown held a 10-9 lead early in the frame prior to a 13-1 run that gave the Wildcats a 22-11 advantage. Ehlert charted six digs in the period.

New Hampshire took a 2-1 set lead behind a 25-15 win in set three. The Wildcats scored 11 straight points to take a 16-6 lead in the frame and maintained at least an eight-point cushion the rest of the way.

For UNH, Katie Jablonski notched 15 kills on .444 hitting, Wren Macaulay totaled a double-double on 23 assists and 10 digs, and Emily Tanski contributed a match-high 27 digs.
