
Volleyball Picked Sixth in Ivy League Preseason Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown University volleyball was picked to finish sixth in the 2019 Ivy League Volleyball Preseason Media Poll, the Ivy League conference office announced on Thursday.

Princeton took the top spot in the poll with 10 first-place votes and 120 overall points, just ahead of second-place Yale (five first-place votes, 117 overall points). Cornell (91 points) and Harvard (one first-place vote, 80 points) completed the top half of the poll while Dartmouth (55 points), Brown (45), Columbia (44), and Penn (24) rounded out the rankings.

As a team, Brown posted an 11-13 overall record in 2018, marking its most wins since the 2014 season (12-14). The Bears went 7-3 in non-conference play, compiling their most non-league wins since 2008 (8-4).

The Bears return an All-Ivy selection in junior right-side hitter Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) and will feature tri-captains in senior outside hitter Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.), junior outside hitter Gabrielle Moriconi (Naples, Fla.), and sophomore libero Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.).

Brown opens its 2019 season with three matches at the Holly Young Invitational – vs. Seattle (Sept. 6, 4:30 p.m.), at New Hampshire (Sept. 7, 12:30 p.m.), and vs. Holy Cross (Sept. 7, 2:30 p.m.) – before hosting North Dakota in its home opener at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sept. 8 at noon.
