
Men’s Basketball Announces 2018-19 Team Awards

Providence, R.I. - Brown head coach Mike Martin and the Bears' men's basketball team, who posted Brown's first 20-win season ever and qualified for the College Basketball Invitational, celebrated an exceptional season at its annual end-of-year banquet at Dave & Busters in Providence on April 14.
Several individual awards were presented along with letter sweaters to all newcomers and recognition of the contributions of the senior class – Travis Fuller, Obi Okolie and Chris Sullivan.
The "J. Richmond Fales Trophy" (Team MVP)
Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) and Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA)
A two-year team captain, Okolie completed his brilliant Brown career with 1,067 career points, 25thbest in Bears' basketball history. An Economics concentrator, he was named the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Year and earned Second Team All-Ivy honors after averaging 12.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Choh led the Ivy League in rebounding with 8.6 rpg and ranked fourth in the conference in assists. A Second Team All-Ivy selection, Choh posted 11 double-doubles and scored a career high 25 points vs. Columbia.
The "Russ Tyler '71 Award" (Top Newcomer)
David Mitchell (Roxbury, MA)
Mitchell saw more playing time than any freshman on the Brown team, averaging 13.0 minutes per game. He Scored a season high eight points vs. UMass Lowell, and pulled down a career high eight rebounds twice, against Canisius and Penn.
David Zucconi '55 Award (Unsung Hero)
George Mawanda-Kalema (Burke, VA)
After missing most of his freshman season due to injury, Mawanda-Kalema earned a spot in the Bears' rotation, scoring a career high 19 points in Brown's win over Princeton with 8-of-13 shooting from the field. He scored 14 points against both Harvard and Cornell.
The "Bernard V. Buonanno, Jr. '60 Award" (Scholar-Athlete)
Zach Hunsaker (North Salt Lake City, UT)
A CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American, Hunsaker was named a captain of the Brown team for the second straight season. Only one of three Brown players to compete in all 32 games, he scored a season high 13 points vs. Yale and added 12 points against UAB and Army. He's an Economics/Portuguese concentrator.
Thomas Hoagland '63 Award (Commitment and hard work, on and off the court)
Travis Fuller (Encinitas, CA)
A four-year player for the Bears, Fuller scored a season high nine points vs. Johnson & Wales. As a junior, Fuller posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds against LIU Brooklyn. He's an Economics concentrator at Brown.
Woody Grimshaw '47 Award (Top Defensive Player)
Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario)
Okolie earned the Ivy League's premier defensive award, being named the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Year.
Gerry Alaimo '58 Award (Putting team above all else)
Chris Sullivan (Wilmette, IL)
The third Sullivan brother to play at Brown, Chris is a two-time team captain for the Bears and one of three Brown players to compete in all 32 games. A BEO-Economics concentrator, he scored a season high 13 points in Brown's win at Dartmouth and netted 11 points in a win over UMass Lowell.
